Local First Utah is a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower and recognize the value and vitality of locally owned, independent businesses to our communities and our economy.

Cottonwood Heights has joined more than 30 other Utah cities in support of “Independents Week” during the first seven days of July. The city council signed a proclamation in support of the week-long celebration on June 14.

Local First Utah is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that was organized in 2005 by a small number of volunteer business owners and community-minded residents.

More than 4,000 locally owned and independent business partners participate in Local First Utah.

The program is open to all Utah businesses that are at least 51% locally owned and make their business decisions independently. Registration is free for business partners.

While recognizing the benefits of national chain companies in our state, Local First notes that nearly four times the amount of money spent at local retailers is returned to our own economy, compared to dollars spent at national chains.
